The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Behavioral Health Nutrition (BHN) Practice Group honored USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology faculty member Cary Kreutzer for her nearly three decades of service during the Annual Food and Nutrition Conference on October 19, 2014 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Kreutzer, an assistant professor at both the USC Leonard Davis School and the USC Keck School of Medicine, has been a member of BHN for over 27 years. The Distinguished Member Award acknowledged her years of leadership, including serving in numerous BHN officer roles; her contributions to BHN publications and nutrition practice; and her work with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

“There is no greater honor than being recognized by one’s colleagues. My involvement with the practice group has been a rewarding experience, sharing our expertise and learning from one another,” Kreutzer said.

A practicing registered dietitian and nutritionist since 1982, Dr. Kreutzer has focused primarily on serving at-risk and underserved pediatric populations, but her expertise in working with persons with disabilities and special health care needs reaches across the lifespan. In 2013, she accepted a faculty appointment at the USC Leonard Davis School to develop the school’s newly launched distance Master of Science program in Nutrition, Healthspan and Longevity. She is a published author on the subject of nutrition and most recently co-authored a chapter on nutritional assessment in Melissa Bernstein and Nancy Munoz’s Nutrition for the Older Adult textbook (2016).

“The scientific evidence showing the influence nutrition has on our health is growing every day. It is an exciting time to be a nutrition professional and to use this evidence to support individuals across the lifespan, to improve their health and longevity,” Kruetzer said.
