Call to Action
Recently the CRC budget augmentation request was passed in the Assembly but not in the Senate. When there is a split agreement over augmentation request, the item goes to the Budget Conference Committee now meeting this week and next, for further review, discussion and final action. The Budget Conference Committee is charged with reconciling the differences between the Senate and Assembly 2019-20 budget proposals, and a final adopted budget will be negotiated and eventually sent to the Governor prior to the June 15 Constitutional deadline.
Simultaneously, representatives from the Governor’s Office will be meeting with senior staff to the Assembly Speaker and Senate Pro Tem to finalize a budget deal that gives both parties a win of some kind. Members of the Budget Conference Committee are: Senator Holly Mitchell, Chair, and Senators John Moorlach, Jim Nielsen, Richard Roth, Nancy Skinner, and Assembly Members Chad Mayes, Kevin McCarty, Jay Obernolte and Shirley Weber. In recent years the conference committee has had 10 members – five members from each house. The conference committee began meeting this week and will wrap up its work by the end of the first week of June.
What Can You Do to Help This Effort?
During this time, the CRCs will be continue to advocate support for the Assembly’s recommendation to provide one-time funding of $10M/year over the next three years to expand and improve caregiver support services across the state. The Governor and his team are predicting a $21.5 billion surplus in revenue this year and so now is the time for the Legislature to invest in the CRCs and expand access to services for family caregivers. Please watch for additional Budget Alerts and Call to Action providing instructions on what you can do to support CRC’s final advocacy push to support the Assembly’s funding recommendation for the Caregiver Resource Centers in the state.
