Professor In-Residence, UCLA
Adjunct Professor of Gerontology

Andrea Hevener, PhD, researches factors contributing to the loss of cellular responsiveness to the hormone insulin. Specifically, her laboratory has studied the effects of estrogen receptor expression on cellular function in tissues normally responsive to the hormone insulin.

The primary goal of the lab’s research is to identify cellular mechanisms that contribute to metabolic dysfunction and heightened disease susceptibility — obesity and type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and breast cancer — in women. Hevener’s work aims to advance women’s health research and clinical care for those suffering from chronic diseases associated with impaired metabolism.
