Our research is highly quantitative and frequently involves the use of mathematical concepts, engineering approaches and programming to answer neuroscience questions of clinical significance. Our laboratory investigates a vast array of scientific questions pertaining to brain function and structure, and many interesting and rewarding projects are available. If you have the background, ability and motivation to become involved in our research, this opportunity may be right for you. As a first step, you should send your CV to <b>irimia_at_usc.edu<\/b>\u00a0and\/or provide information about your research interests, programming experience, academic background and STEM courses which you have taken.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3>Preferred background<\/h3>\n<p>For these reasons, coding experience in any programming language is a wonderful and often necessary asset for someone interested in becoming involved in our research. Knowledge of mathematics and\/or the ability to use engineering approaches to problem solving are also important in our work, such that a background in any of these areas is very welcome. Wet lab research opportunities are not available.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3>Undergraduate Students<\/h3>\n<p>Undergraduate students who consider volunteering their time should be willing to commit at least 10 hours per week in order for their experience to be fruitful, rewarding and valuable. There are already highly talented undergraduate students in the laboratory who work on a variety of fascinating projects about the brain.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3>Graduate Students<\/h3>\n<p>Graduate students should be able to commit 20 hours per week. Professor Irimia can serve as advisor to USC graduate students pursuing PhD degrees in Gerontology, Neuroscience and the Biology of Aging. He can also serve as advisor to masters students in these and additional STEM disciplines.
