The world is aging rapidly. This trend will continue for decades before the population stabilizes with an older average age. The demographic structure of the world and individual countries can be relatively well-estimated; however, how countries, families, and individuals will adapt to an older world is less well-known.

The ability of aging populations to support successful aging of their members both depends on and determines the health and well-being of the populations and the support of families, policies and programs.

The aims of the Center on Global Aging are to increase understanding through research of how aging can vary around the world because of:

  • The social and economic context

  • Changes in health

  • Policies and programs to support aging persons

Topics of interest include physiological aging, health, well-being, caregiving, labor force participation, migration, use of services, family interaction and social integration.
