Overview

Bong-Keun (Andrew) Jung, OTD is a faculty member at the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, where he leads the MS in Applied Technology and Aging and advances academic and research initiatives focused on AgeTech, assistive technology, rehabilitation robotics, and technology-driven solutions for aging and future mobility.

Trained in occupational therapy, developmental psychology, and bioengineering, Dr. Jung brings an interdisciplinary perspective to the design, evaluation, and implementation of emerging technologies that support health, independence, and quality of life across the lifespan. His research centers on wearable and assistive robotics, soft robotics, AI-enabled health technologies, smart environments, and human-centered technology adoption, with an emphasis on clinical relevance and real-world implementation in aging and rehabilitation contexts.

Prior to joining USC, Jung worked in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University, where he developed and implemented soft robotic and wearable robotic systems for users across all age groups, with applications in rehabilitation, daily living support, and mobility assistance.

Jung is an internationally recognized researcher and educator in rehabilitation robotics and assistive technologies. He serves as an Associate Editor for two international peer-reviewed journals and is a member of the IEEE AgeTech Initiative leadership team, where he also serves as Chair of the Wearable Robotics Subcommittee. He has led large-scale, government-funded research projects, holds multiple patents, and has extensive experience translating research into clinical, industrial, and policy-relevant outcomes.
