The keynote speaker for the 2026 USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology Commencement Ceremony is alumna Ranyan Lu. Lu received her PhD in Gerontology in 1998, specializing in biodemography and population health under the mentorship of University Professor Eileen Crimmins.
Before her retirement in 2025, Lu achieved a distinguished career in aging and health care services. Most recently, she served as Vice President of Clinical Performance Measurement and Predictive Analytics at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. She has also held various positions at UnitedHealth Group, including Vice President of Clinical Analytics and Development, National Director of Clinical Analytics, and Director of Medical Informatics. Before joining UnitedHealth Group, she worked as a research consultant at Kaiser Permanente. During her career, she has also served on healthcare performance measurement committees hosted by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), helping advance national measure standardization.
Prior to her time at USC, she received her MD from Peking University and an MS in Epidemiology from the Beijing Institute of Heart, Lung, and Blood Vessel Diseases. In 2010, she also completed a Master of Business Administration degree at the University of California, Irvine.
