LAist Radio (KPCC-FM) spoke with Research Associate Professor Donna Benton about caring for individuals with dementia and Alzheimer’s, and on how to make the transition to care facilities easier and more comfortable for older adults.

PsyPost and MSN featured Professor Mara Mather on her work showing breathing exercises could reduce levels of peptides associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
“I was interested in whether inducing slow oscillations in heart rate during slow paced breathing would help increase clearance of amyloid beta from the brain…I hypothesized it could do so as the practice induces some of the features of deep sleep – slow physiological oscillations and low noradrenergic activity – that have been identified as promoting clearance of brain waste” said Professor Mather.
Sacramento Bee recently featured Professor Valter Longo’s research on the benefits of wheat germ.
Longo’s research shows early evidence that the wheat germ compound, spermidine, can replace “old or damaged parts of your cells with new versions.”
LA City View 35 featured an ongoing partnership between the Department of Aging, The Loop Village, and faculty and students from the USC Leonard Davis School. The virtual classes teach seniors the importance of nutrition and how to eat healthier.
